Dr Jones was born and educated in the North-West of England. She studied medicine at the University of Cambridge (1989-1995) and undertook post-graduate training in Medicine (1995-1998). She won a Welcome Trust training fellowship and completed a PhD in stem cell biology at the Institute of Genetic Medicine, Newcastle upon Tyne (1998- 2001). She trained in Clinical Genetics and was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute of Genetic Medicine, Newcastle upon Tyne (2001-2008). She was appointed as Consultant Clinical Geneticist in Genetic Medicine, Manchester in 2008.
