Biography

Dr Kay Metcalfe studied medicine at the University of Wales College of Medicine. qualifying in 1987. After five years' postgraduate training in paediatrics at Newport Gwent and Royal Liverpool Children’s Hospital Alder Hey, she moved to Manchester to train in Clinical Genetics. Her MD thesis (2000) focused on Williams syndrome and elastin gene related disorders. Dr Metcalfe was appointed as a Consultant Clinical Geneticist in Manchester in March 2001.

She maintains a research interest in Williams syndrome and related disorders and is on the professional advisory panel for the Williams Syndrome Foundation.

Dr Metcalfe's clinical specialist interests are Inherited cardiac conditions, Williams syndrome, Genetic causes of Developmental disability and dysmorphology, and fetal medicine
