Dr Kay Metcalfe is a consultant clinical geneticist. She qualified from Cardiff University in 1987 and trained in paediatrics before moving into clinical genetic training in 1993. She undertook an MD thesis on Williams syndrome and the elastin gene and was appointed as a consultant in 2001. Her main clinical interests are dysmorphology, fetal medicine and cardiac genetics. Research interests include Williams syndrome, supravalvular aortic stenosis and other elastin related disorders. She is a tutor for the medical undergraduate communication skills/ breaking bad news course and involved in genetics teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She is the Educational Supervisor for the Sprs in clinical genetics. She teaches on the clinical genetics module and acts as an MSc supervisor for MSc in genetic counselling course.
