Dr Helen Kingston was appointed as a consultant clinical geneticist and honorary lecturer in the regional genetic service in 1986. After working in paediatrics for several years, she trained in clinical genetics in Cardiff and then Los Angeles. Her research MD comprised a clinical and molecular study of Becker muscular dystrophy, which mapped the gene in 1983. She provides a specialist regional service for neuromuscular disorders as well as general genetic conditions and dysmorphology and contributes to research in these areas. She is the author of the BMJ's ABC of Clinical Genetics. She is the North West RSA for Genetics and is involved in higher specialist training, revalidation in clinical genetics and recognition of the specialty across Europe through JRCPTB, Clinical Genetic Society (CGS) and Union of European Medical Specialties (UEMS)Committees. She contributes to teaching in clinical genetics and is a research supervisor.
