MCGM works with a number of partners including:

National Genetics Reference Laboratory

NGRL Manchester works in the field of bioinformatics and health informatics, at the interface of genetic and genomic healthcare and research, to support the translation of new technology and data into improved healthcare.

The European Molecular Genetics Quality Network (EMQN)

European Research Network for evaluation and improvement of screening, diagnosis and treatment of Inborn Errors of Metabolism (ERNDIM)

MCGM hosts the quality assessment agencies EMQN and ERNDIM; independent bodies governed by international scientific boards. They offer Laboratory Proficiency or External Quality Assessment (EQA) schemes to test analytical procedures in molecular and biochemical genetics laboratories. Their networks provide EQA to more than 1300 labs in over 60 countries world-wide in collaboration with many professional and research organisations.

EMQN is the largest accredited (ISO 17043) EQA provider for molecular genetic testing in the world; membership of both EMQN and ERNDIM is open to public and private laboratories in all countries.

Participation in EQA drives up standards of service and allows laboratories to demonstrate to their users that they are meeting international quality standards. EMQN and ERNDIM give direct access to best practice guideline development, and allow laboratories to contribute to and access healthcare quality mutation data.
